Low light night vision instrument
Low light night vision instrument refers to an instrument that uses natural night sky light such as weak moonlight, starlight, atmospheric glow, and Milky Way light at night for illumination. With the help of a light intensifier, the weak photons reflected from the target are amplified and converted into visible images to achieve night observation. The important part of a low light night vision device is the image intensifier.
Low light night vision equipment is a type of night vision equipment developed in the 1960s. It is a nighttime observation instrument that enhances the low light reflected back from the target through an image intensifier, enabling the human eye to see the target image. The low light night vision device itself does not require an active light source and is a passive imaging system. Therefore, it overcomes the disadvantage of active infrared night vision devices being prone to self exposure and is more suitable for military night combat use.
Micro light, also known as night sky light, is a collective term for moonlight, starlight, and atmospheric glow that exist at night.
principle
The low light night vision device consists of four main components: a strong light force objective, an image intensifier, an eyepiece, and a power supply. From an optical principle perspective, a low light night vision instrument is a special telescope with an image intensifier.
Weak natural light emits through the target surface and enters the night vision device. Under the action of a strong light force objective, it focuses on the photocathode surface of the image intensifier (overlapping with the rear focal plane of the objective) and excites photoelectrons; Under the action of the electronic optical system inside the image intensifier, photoelectrons are accelerated, focused, and imaged, bombarding the fluorescent screen of the image intensifier at an extremely high speed and exciting enough visible light, thereby transforming a distant target illuminated only by weak natural light into a visible light image suitable for human observation. Further magnification through the eyepiece enables more effective visual observation. The above process involves two transformations from optical images to electronic images and then to optical images.
type
Low light night vision devices can be divided into the first generation, second generation, and third generation based on the type of image intensifier used.
application
Low light night vision devices have been equipped in various branches of the army, navy, and air, such as binocular or monocular night vision glasses, helmet sights, and medium range weapon sights carried by individual soldiers. As a warrior, I use my super vision eyes at night to observe, search, track, and recognize objects at both close and far distances. Similarly, installing a low light night vision device on an aircraft greatly improves the pilot's visual acuity during nighttime observation, helping the aircraft land.
Public security, security, armed police, customs, and security departments use low light night vision devices as important means in night patrols, investigations, evidence collection, enforcement, anti smuggling, drug trafficking, and anti pornography operations, as well as in night monitoring and security work in banks, warehouses, important cultural relics, and warehouses. They also fight against criminals and counter espionage to safeguard national security.
In the industrial field, low light night vision devices are also needed when working in dark places such as photosensitive, chemical industry, seabed resource exploration, offshore oil drilling platforms, and deep-sea fishing.
In the field of medicine and health, low light night vision devices are important tools, such as image acquisition and enhancement processing, as well as in scientific research, such as satellite remote sensing, remote sensing of astronomical galaxies, nighttime observation of weak stars, research on the growth patterns of plants at night, and research on the living habits of nocturnal animals.
