A microchannel plate (MCP) is an electron avalanche multiplication device. After each channel wall undergoes hydrogen burnback, a semiconductor layer with secondary electron emission characteristics is formed on the surface. When input electrons collide with the channel wall, secondary electrons are generated. Through multiple such collisions, electron output of 104 to 105 times is achieved, thereby achieving the purpose of enhancing weak electrical signals. MCPs are widely used in applications such as low-light imaging and particle detection.
